Websites for Lead Generation Part 1

The Power is in the List.
If you don’t have a market, you don’t have a business. Pretty easy to understand in the offline world. If you open your doors and no customers come in, it’s pretty tough to keep the lights on. So how do you generate new customers and keep old ones coming back?
In the offline world there are a few common strategies:
- Advertising: Magazines, newspapers, posters, flyers, signage, radio spots, business cards, television, etc.
- Contests: trade shows, open houses, joint ventures
- Word of Mouth…
The challenges here are pretty obvious. First of all, advertising in the offline world (and sometimes the online world…) can be pretty expensive, and depending on how you do it, difficult to track. The other major challenge is that what it cost you to advertise last month can be the same as this month, next month, etc. With the exception of Word-of-Mouth, this can be an expense with no end in sight.
So how is it done in the online world? And, more importantly are there lessons to be learned and applied to the offline world?
Well in the Online Business Model advertising is usually done like this:
- Pay-Per-Click/Pay-Per-Lead: This can be expensive if you don’t track it or a great way to make profit quickly.
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Everyone is after that prestigious ‘Page 1′ ranking in Google. With thousands or even millions of competitors for your search terms, this can be a major challenge for the untrained.
- Affiliate Marketing: Turning customers into advertisers can be a major boon to your bottom line. Online marketer extraordinaire Mike Filsaime developed the concept of ‘Butterfly Marketing’ and grew a 7 figure business using this method.
- E-mail Marketing: This is, without question, the #1 Goal of every online marketer. Pay for the lead once, market forever…
When we’re talking about Lead Generation, numbers 1-3 are all about building #4. Think about it this way…
Imagine that every time a customer came into your store you offered them something for free in exchange for their address or phone number. Two things would likely happen…you would run out of money, or your customers would quickly make a revolving door
. In the Online World…this is as common, and as cheap as email.
There are right ways and wrong ways to do this however, and before I go over the do’s and don’ts I’ll encourage you to have a peek at my most successful ‘Squeeze Page’ (Over 50% of the people who go to this page sign up…) and try to figure out why it’s as successful as it is.
See for yourself…
